Strawbale Hobbit Sauna Details

Hobbit Sauna VOLUNTEER DAYS are open for you to come help & learn ~ as the Hobbit Sauna is finished !

August 24 – Sept 1,  Sept 13 – 19 and October 17 – 20, 2013.

Come to one or all days.    Share food & cooking, camping & indoor lodging.  Donations or Worktrade.

Activities will include: cob walls, earth plastering on strawbale walls, living roof construction & soil and drainage around building.  Get familiar with natural building skills ! Instructor, Deanne Bednar: coordinator of the Strawbale Studio Program & illustrator of the Hand-Sculpted House book & the Natural Plaster Book.  Located on beautiful wooded rural land 1 hour north of Detroit.

Stay at the land, indoors or camping, share food & cleanup.

Below is the description of the Hobbit Sauna Workshop held July 13 – 26, 2013:

Structural concepts: how to make sure it doesn’t fall down
Climate-appropriate design
Chris McClellan will be coming in for a few days & will cover:

  • Building Codes and how to work with them
  • Becoming an owner-builder – planning and managing your project
  • Strategies for getting more experience and education
  • Planning for plumbing and electrical wiring

Who should take this workshop?
This workshop is an excellent introduction to natural building for those with lots of interest and little or no experience.
