A BIT of HISTORY:

Yes ! 20 years ago in 1997, building was started on the Strawbale Studio – a place that means so much to so many of us !   How many hands have helped along the entire process? !  How many muddy feet & laughter along the way ?

Left: Fran Lee gathering our first reed bundle. Right: the rest of the original core crew ~ Deanne, Carolyn plus Gregie !

Fran Lee wanted a special place, a Place for the Soul, that felt like a “hug”.  Deanne was afire from a 3 week natural building course by Cob Cottage Company on the west coast. Carolyn Koch was part of this core team and off we went, bringing vision into reality, one stone at a time, one log at a time, one strawbale at a time, one cob mix…at a time !   Getting help when we needed it from a stone mason, a framing crew, thatchers from Denmark…we novices and many volunteers learned as we went. We took it all step by step…putting our hands and hearts into the project, until it became…. SOUL-FULL !

And have you seen the new buildings & places?  The Hobbit Sauna and Hobaddition?  The New ID Cabin with a living roof?  The Boat Launch with a fire pit, stone/lime bench, Spiral Chamber new ridge peak, New curved door on the Kids Cottage?  Outdoor Rocket Cooker, Faux Waterfall,  Oak & Oat ridge caps on the Wood Shelter and Kids Cottage, the Tree plantings on the Meadow Pipeline?
