CRAFTING SERIES: In this SPOON CARVING class learn techniques, tools & find the flow! Practice by making a Spreader Knife or Chopsticks, then a simple Spoon!  Same Class offered on 3/11 & 3/13.

Enjoy hanging out in the Strawbale Studio …. and learn the basics of carving that can be applied to a variety of projects. In this class we will Start with skill-building on a simple project….a wooden spreader knife, or chop sticks. Get in the flow. Learn skill and confidence. . . then try out a basic spoon.

Learn safe knife carving techniques and tools.  The basic tool will be a sloyd knife.  And you will also learn how to use a hatchet, shaving horse and drawshave, and a hook knife that can reduce the amount of carving you need to do with the knife. Try out some high quality tools to see what you like.  The wood is harvested from on the land !

Spoon Carving 202 to be offered in the future, will teach techniques for making a more complex spoon. but that will not be done in this class. At the end of the day, you will have several projects carved to take home.

WHAT TO BRING
Bring a snack for yourself, water.
Bring a good hatchet if you have one, carving knives if you have them.

Covid considerations
We will be following current covid guidelines. Masking & distancing indoors, distancing outdoors (following the guidelines of the MI Folk School that safely held who held 170 workshops held during last 2 years.  If this doesn’t fit for you, look forward to a future spoon carving class in 2022, when things may have changed.
