Jack
Jack is in a permaculture design course with Oregon State University. He’s loving the class, and has already learned so much. While researching he found the Massachusetts Farmland Action Plan to preserve farmland in Massachusetts, and he reached out to the person who’s running it to inquire about any farmers hoping to pass on their land to other farmers. The Permaculture Design Course. Appreciating the design aspect and will get a certificate. Farmland, passing it on from the farmer. Looking for a place in Massachusetts to start my life, and noting there is a lot of environmental protection in MA I may turn the land from farmland into permaculture – a contribution to life. I’m busy every weekend. This weekend I attended a conference for 40,000 people on board games. I Taught my girlfriend to drive and she bought her first car! I was inspired by Pat K to be more aware of my communication in my school teaching.

| The joy of being out in the garden, enjoying the spinach and asparagus that are coming back. The joy this year is sharing that with my daughter. She has started one. A couple of raised beds in her yard. It’s going to be the raised beds are just the right height for her 2 year old. The radishes might be picked before they’re ready. Keep growing in Detroit, I’ll be getting the hot crops tomorrow for myself and my daughter. I haven’t had a NVC practice group in a long time. I have thought about the possibility of joining one. I had taken a NVC course maybe a year ago, a global one. I ended up having an empathy buddy from Kenya living in Ireland, and she’s called me. She was on the team as a trainer. She was starting a group… I haven’t done one in a long time. She was talking about the joy she has in leading a group, and that has me thinking about it again.I listened to the new Pope’s address to journalists, discussing the importance of communication and speech with integrity. That’s NVC! It was an excellent speech. I listened to it a couple of days ago.That’s it for me!

Joy met Deanne at the Michigan Folk School in the Fall
| I have flowering crabapples. I am very much enjoying this month of May. I was visiting my friend Sara Bush in Ohio. I have been struggling greatly with what’s going on in the world. I used that time in Ohio to retreat from reality, where I spent time with a cat. I have a hard tim reentering the world. Unexpected construction/maintenance at my apartment. I am now emerging tentatively from my reclusion. I am craving the company of gentle people, and that’s why I’m here tonight. Living in an apartment is difficult for someone with a love of gardening. Life that is nourishing rather than painful. I’m Quaker. I was amused that one of my church of the brethren said that the last pope was an honorary brethren. I’m hearing good things about the new Pope. One of the nourishing things: I did an internship in january 2007 at a farm in Georgia. They put the farm in Koinia farm. They have their own farm in Southern Illinois. I spent an afternoon with them. I can share things with them that I can’t as easily share with others. Intentional communities have been the focus of my life, even if I haven’t spent an extended time in one. |
Deanne
| I went to a 5 day mud workshop: Earthen Interior. Strawbale structure started in 2019 Circle Pines camp by Kalamazoo.Helping people and teaching there. I really enjoyed being outside, being with people, and being able to teach. I just want to be outside A LOT! I worked on cleaning up my cabin, and that was a TRIP. I foraged for mushrooms. I found some dryad’s saddle. I didn’t find any morel since last Saturday. I went over to save my neighbor’s chickens, where there was some ruckus.Lots of programming in responsibility. Handling scheduling, meeting new people. A friend of mine wants to buy the cottage I used to live in on Green Lake. I’m anticipating the on-going thing that’s going on between us. I’m not there, but she would like to buy it, redo it, etc. Other people’s longing, dilemmas. Trying to stay calm and connected to what I’m doing at the moment. Keep grounded. Keep my sight out on what I want and track things. |
Bonnie
| Focus in the positive outlooks. Joy “I’m doing my mental laundry. Separating the darks from the lights.” I found that amusing. I would like to join an NVC group. Virtual or in-person? It is nice to get together with people. I’m doing life and death lately. There’s been a whole flurry of final chapters around me. One of my favorite cousins very recently. My former husband is on hospice. My dear friend’s nephew. Going down to take him off life support, but then putting him back on so that his organs could be donated. And more. Life has that cluster. At the other end of that: my third great-grandchild’s baby shower! The balance of the whole cycle of life. Cleaning up a bunch of fall leaves that have gathered as the new green shoots come up. I’m in a second-floor little in-law apartment. There’s a bunch of lilacs right outside the window that have come to bring me delight. Those are the biggest things on my horizon. I just talked to a woman today about starting a tai chi practice group. Those things and the deeper level of questions. Do you know anything about the idea of being on life support? They can sustain life for a while. The machines couldn’t keep him going for as long as they wanted in order to share his organs. How does that work? |
Sarah Stevenson
| I’m in Pittsburgh, and my lilac is scenting the neighborhood. Four of my rose bushes have bloomed. They smell wonderful and they’re pristine. I’m redoing my gardens. Rhubarb, radishes, and kohlrabi for my belly! I’m realizing that life, life gets so contorted and complex and tangled up. We don’t have to tolerate it like that. I appreciate having things that I can grow. It’s just a simple relationship that I adore. I love the sunshine on my head. I love the birds singing and rejoicing. I don’t like to have to make decisions that have the weight of other peoples’ being.Coming to you and just talking to you guys. All I hear about is Detroit. You guys are the best place around. You’re in the “IN” place now. You’re factories had gone, your houses were in ruin, and now you’re in the cutting edge of environmental, social, touching things that touch my heart. I’m excited to be here and to share Spring with you. Because right now… that’s good, and that’s where I want to be. Somebody mentioned Joan Chenister (spelling?). I would show you my garden, but it’s too dark now. It’s all abloom. I have a lot of things. The foxgloves, the roses! There’s a beautiful weed: a golden bloom, and it’s just covering my whole little mound back there. Verbena, peonies. This is my world. This is the world that I would send to all of you. |

| The Art Experience in Pontiac, MI. The only thing they charge for is canvas. A rose surrounded by roses.Mental health first aid class. It runs in the family… insanity. I learned that you can do is: listen non-judgmentally, do no ask them particular details of the event. I signed up for 10 more zooms on business and mental health and substance use. I know someone who uses substances. I tried to employ her. She did some things that made it impossible. So I moved, and I was homeless for 4 weeks. James Prilionni: sells seeds. Visions within the next two years. Arbor on the balcony. Tomatoes and cucumbers, little gourds, loofas, herbs on the end. Maybe some mushrooms. |
Michael.
I’ve had a Heart attack, pneumonia, and trying to get better. I do what I can to help: walk and exercise, and then the next day I’m so worn out I can’t do anything. I got to do facetime at the Potlcuk Full Moon POTLUCK & Bonfire. I know some of you from the previous zooms. Thursday Deanne and I are going to get on the phone and seek to locate the dinner theater and the songs I sang. The first year I sang ‘Oh Death”, 2nd year the opening and ending song and MY song stayed in the show, they were so impressed with it.. It was a lot of fun, and people were utterly blown away. I used to sing to the radio I guess I really impressed people. I played Dumbledor, 16 tons I do extremely well. Growing up on the Farm you learn to yell that doesn’t hurt your vocal cords.

Dick comes in the zoom at about 9:30p and we translate him to the group and they to him. Some folks drop off the call at that point. We have scientific evidence and wisdom traditions throughout the ages. A young man interviews here. a great anecdote to the shenanigan’s and tragedies that are going on in the world.

Jo was late as the historic preservation group was going over their budget of $260,000 in grants making decisions and sequence of activities. Jo coordinates the volunteers and organizing, order of activities, sorting and organizing, and landscaping around the buildings. And there is a park and we are doing landscaping there. Fir trees delivered, and on the agenda.There is a young woman who is working on my land instead of paying rent. Excellent when she can remember. Tomorrow I’ll show her how to improve the soil for these new trees. I also work with Alternatives to Violence Project and I am corresponding secretary in communication with about 200 prisoners. I’ll be going to a conference.
