The Sculpting workshop was like a mini retreat, as we toured the buildings, then settled in to some hours of shaping earth. Each person had their own expressive design they developed.
We also enjoyed sharing a bit about ourselves and what brought us to this workshop: a longing for creativity, working with nature, relaxing, exploring a new medium. Our sculpting mix was sand/clay subsoil off the land, sifted and mixed with water. Techniques were taught, and each person found an engaging project to shape and create.
The Strawbale Studio was our venue, with the woodstove burning brightly, sculpted earthen benches, curving shapes, strawbale walls covered in earthen plasters.
It was a lovely, renewing time for all, being with old friends and making new ones, and taking a little time for ourselves to “be with the earth”.
