Kensington Kids Cottage & Permaculture

Robbie Brown and his friend Shanna Cutron visited the Strawbale Studio for a tour and conversation. Robbie  is interested in connecting “Life, Land and People”. He works at the Farm Center at Kensington Metropark outside Milford, MI, and is in charge of the Kid’s Cottage and other Interpretive programs.  The The Kids’ Cottage, a small classroom constructed of natural local materials – strawbales, earth plasters, stone foundation, timber frame and a thatched roof – was designed and built in 2006 by a team that included the Strawbale Studio interns.

The farm is interested in weaving  into the Kids’ Cottage area and curriculum!

Robbie, Shanna and I looked at some Permaculture books in the SBS resource library, and dreamed a bit about having a time in the spring when we come to the Farm, repair the Kids’ Cottage earth plasters, fire up the Turtle Earth Oven, and have some education on Permaculture that could be integrated into the land there.  All are welcomed to attend the Oakland County Permaculture Meetup that meets monthly every 2nd Wednesday – with a potluck, learning session and networking.
